User Experience
A passion project brought back to life by a dedicated player. Tankpit is a revival and improvement upon a java browser game myself and many others used to play in our early teens in the early 2000's. Tankpit consists of color teams that battle it out on each map for dominance on the leaderboards. Weekly tournaments for prestigious cups for placing 1st - 3rd bring out the most competitve players.
Re-released in the beginning of 2012, the game a lot of us had missed was brought back. Over the years I served as an advisor for new ideas and creative contributions to the functionality of the game, and small site revamps. In early 2022 we decided it was time to give the game's website a much to do overhaul, all the while bringing vastly new ideas and interactions to enhance the players experience that much more.
From tracking players day to day statistics to their overall stats, tournament performances and dynamic player profiles that will allow for better ways of interacting and making new friends. The site refresh bodes well for the games future and expansion of ideas as some are still in development.
Background image treatments
Images were treated in a manner to seamlessly merge with the background on the website. Contextual imagery and grain applied in a collage style with the intent to make the photos feel worn and dated.
Styling & Guided Annotations
To help fasciliate a speedier developement process, I provided my partner with detailed annotations & style guides for specific components he could use as a guiding point. These proved to be extremely successful as new dynamic components were made with ease as a direct result of the base templates.
UI Elements, Maps & Tile Design
Since the game is not limited to the barrier of a developer behind closed doors. This gives players the unique opportunity to design their own elements and implement them into the game. "Tiles" are a term used to describe how the images in the game are pieced together from a single image to create the landscape and items you see in game. On occasions there are hosted design competitions that could net you a "special award" on your tank called a purple heart. Map designs are one such a contest and a player favorite. Every pixel on the design = 1 playable space in the game.
